IBC and IRC codes require that cable railing not deflect more than 4 inches under 200 lbs of horizontal force. Viewrail recommends tensioning 1/8" cable to 200–250 lbs and 3/16" cable to 250–350 lbs using our ProFit tensioners with included torque specs. Over-tensioning can bow wooden posts; our CorePost steel system eliminates that risk.

Viewrail cable railing systems meet IBC (International Building Code) and IRC (International Residential Code) requirements for post spacing, cable spacing (3" max), and load capacity. Some states and municipalities have adopted codes that restrict horizontal cables on stairs — our engineering team provides jurisdiction-specific documentation upon request.

T316 stainless steel is exceptionally corrosion-resistant. For coastal or industrial environments, we recommend wiping cables twice a year with a stainless-steel cleaner. Interior installations typically require only an annual wipe-down. Cable tension should be checked every 12–18 months and adjusted if deflection exceeds code limits — this typically takes under 30 minutes per run.

Standard EdgeFloat stair systems ship in 4–6 weeks from order confirmation. Custom tread materials (live edge, porcelain, glass) require 6–10 weeks depending on tread supplier lead times. Expedited processing (2–3 weeks) is available for steel stringer components at an additional charge. All orders include a pre-shipment inspection report.
